18-Oct-2006: In response to increased demand from women across the country for better information and dialogue with the Conservative Party the Conservative Women’s Organisation (CWO) has launched its re-designed website today, 18th October 2006.
Improvements have been made to navigation, content and user experience, together with bringing the branding of the website in-line with the Conservative Party’s new image.
Included in the renovation and expansion of the site is the launch of the new CWO Blog (http://cwoblog.blogspot.com), which hopes to encourage women to engage in dialogue with the CWO and comment on issues concerning women in the UK today.
On launching the upgraded site, Lady Fiona Hodgson (Chairman, CWO) said:“I am absolutely delighted with our new website. I am sure that it will help us make contact and engage with many more women across the country, and it is vital we do so.
“We need people views, to ensure policy meets their expectations and we want to give those considering a role in public life all the help and support they need to make a difference.
“I think it reflects the new changing Conservative Party and the fact that the CWO is changing too.“
A prominent feature of the new website is the Forum & Policy section, which includes news, articles and links on the CWO’s current policy, research, panel sessions, summits and women’s groups. These are all part of the Conservative Women’s Forum, which has been set up to take forward David Cameron’s agenda of 'reaching out' to women.
The CWO website’s primary function is to educate women on how they can become more involved in politics and to this end the website contains an ever-expanding section on Women & Public Life, including help and advice on becoming a Conservative Councillor or how to start on the road to becoming a Conservative MP.
Other new sections include information about the CWO’s 75th Annual Conference, where David Cameron, William Hague and Theresa May, among others, will be addressing the audience at the QEII Conference Centre on the 30th November.
To make the organisation more inclusive to women throughout the UK, a separate website for each one of the CWO’s 12 regions will come online over the next few months.
Southern (http://southern.conservativewomen.org.uk),
Wales (http://wales.conservativewomen.org.uk) and
The North West (http://northwest.conservativewomen.org.uk) regions already have their own websites, which they update through the central CWO Extranet.

About the CWO
The first recorded Conservative Women's Conference was in 1921. However, the Conservative Women's Organisation itself was first founded in 1928 when it was called the Women's National Advisory Committee. In the 1930's the Organisation had over one million members. In the early 1990's the CWO had more than quarter of a million members and was the largest women's political organisation in the western world.
In the 21st Century, the CWO provides a focus and support for every women in the Conservative Party. It gives a forum for women of all ages, backgrounds and from all parts of the country to meet, discuss issues and work together.
