The CWO Forum, Returning to Civilian Life, will explore the issues faced by service personnel, families and the wider community when they leave the forces. We will look at these issues from the range of different perspectives offered by our speakers, who will help us help us to think about:

• The government's perspective, in terms of current policy 
  
• What it is like to adjust to civilian life, if one has to manage the impacts of trauma (a trauma specialist will talk about her work with ex-service-men who are suffering from PTSD);
  
• The challenges of finding work and adjusting to a different work context (one of the ‘Band of Brothers’ will be speaking to us about these issues, on behalf of Help for Heroes);
  
• The challenges of being made redundant, as part of the current changes to the armed forces (an officer who has just left the Army at the end of his commission, where he was a bomb disposal expert, will talk about his experiences and the support that is currently available).
  

We hope that this forum will help us – as friends, neighbours and as service-providers (within local authorities and healthcare) - to be more aware of the issues faced by our ex-service men and women and their families as they return to civilian life.

We also hope that thinking more about these issues more deeply could help us all to reflect upon the support that will be needed for our Reserves, their families and wider community, as the balance shifts from regular forces, to having a growing number of soldiers based in the Territorial Army.
