Biography

President of Conservative Women's Organisation.

Progressed from Branch Chairman 1989 to National Chairman of Conservative Women´s Organisation (CWO). Term of office 2002-2005.

Committee member of the Candidates Committee and Women Policy Unit.

February 2005 made an address in the House of Lords to 26 Arab women (from 18 countries) visiting the UK to explore ways to help women become both politically and economically engaged.

Held various voluntary posts in the Conservative Party - including candidate selection and election agent.

Experience

From 1979 to date - Managing Director of 100% owned trading company importing into the Middle East, West Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh to both public and private sector covering mechanical & electrical equipment.

Owns a consultancy company helping Arab women build partnerships with overseas manufacturers.

Seven years in the City of London with merchant bank, Guinness Peat, trading in commodities and machinery.
Three years experience in factory production.

Public Appointments each for 7 years term:
- OFTEL (Government Watchdog for telecom industry) post held from BT monopoly to opening up of UK telecoms industry.
- Member of DTI Export Board (Department of Trade and Industry) advising on the needs of small & medium business encouraging new and developing exporters.

Chairman of both Primary & Grant Maintained School Board of Governors.

Chairman of private school parents association raising considerable funds for the school and a charity for severely disabled teenagers.
